A Note From Will
Mikee played lead guitar in Energy Field Band with me. He was one of the most talented people I've ever known — a real musician, a natural entrepreneur, and the kind of friend who made every room better for being in it. Losing him at 23 was devastating. Turning that loss into scholarships that put late-year music students at Loyola over the finish line is one of the most meaningful things I've ever been part of. Every dollar we raise carries his name forward.

Who Was Mikee
Michael Robertson Jones — Mikee to his friends and family — was an accomplished young guitarist, composer, and music entrepreneur. He died unexpectedly on February 14, 2009, at the age of 23. A native of Chestertown, Maryland, Mikee earned his degree in Music Industry Studies from Loyola University of New Orleans in 2008, where he grew to love the people, the city, and the University.
He was the long-time lead guitarist for Energy Field Band, and also played with the MRJ Trio and sat in solo at venues across Maryland, Florida, and New Orleans. He was CEO of his own music-industry e-commerce business, Lucid Arts Entertainment LLC, which he co-founded in 2007, and worked as a label representative for Hyena and Big Deal Records.
Beyond music, Mikee was a licensed aircraft pilot, a certified scuba diver, and a certified bartender. He loved boating, snowboarding, and jet skiing. In his youth he played football, lacrosse, and rugby. He considered himself a traveling man — one of his favorite endeavors was going to festivals and concerts throughout the United States.
He hoped to attend the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas in the fall of 2009 to begin earning his MBA. Mikee was an only child, survived by his parents Dr. Robert and Dusti Jones of Chestertown, Maryland and Marathon, Florida.
Causes Mikee Served

Fundraised and participated in Relay for Life.
Long-time supporter of the annual event.
Community and family support in his home region of Maryland.
Marine conservation and research support.
Coached the local youth lacrosse team.

The Scholarship
Mikee's friends, family, and colleagues, in partnership with Loyola University, established the Mikee Jones Music Scholarship in February of 2010. The scholarship assists students who are up-and-coming musicians, music entrepreneurs, and music business leaders with the cost of tuition, books, musical instruments, and equipment — helping them realize their dreams of building music careers and ventures through their education at Loyola. Just like Mikee did.
As of 2023, we have raised and endowed over $150,000 and given out more than 10 scholarships to late-year music students at Loyola University of New Orleans.
Every dollar donated is invested into the endowment, so the scholarship keeps giving — year after year, student after student — long after any single gift is made.
How You Can Help
Every donation goes directly to Loyola University New Orleans, where it's added to Mikee's endowment and turned into scholarships for late-year music students.
